Falls Prevention

Take Steps to Prevent Falls and Stay Independent

40% of older adults who suffer a serious fall end their lives in a nursing home. A fall can signal the end of a person's independence. But falls are NOT a normal part of aging. You can take steps to reduce to chances of falling. Talk to your doctor or health care provider about how to prevent falls. Take advantage of all the community services we have available in Dane County - exercise classes, home safety checks - to help you remain healthy and independent.

You can access all these services by calling 211. The Falls Prevention Helpline via United Way 2-1-1 is now operational. United Way 2-1-1 staff has been trained and a falls prevention database is in place for their use in making referrals. Included in the Falls Helpline database is up-to-date information about falls prevention services in the community.

Falls Prevention Helpline of United Way 2-1-1 is a one-stop referral and information source. Older adults, family members, clinicians are invited to call United Way 2-1-1 24 hours a day, seven days a week for help on reducing falls and remaining independent. Also, check out resources and information on this website, and take action to reduce your risk of falling.
