Walk Our Children to School Week/Walkable Neighborhoods Campaign, October 6-10, 2008

Safe Community Coalition joins with Madison Area SAFE KIDS and many school and law enforcement partners to coordinate this campaign. Twenty schools, 7,000 children, and their families participate in Walk Our Children to School Week in Dane County each year. Walk Our Children to School Week is aimed at improving driver behavior and teaching children to be safe pedestrians.

Safe Routes to School Task Force: In an effort to expand the impacts of Walk Our Children to School Week beyond our early-October campaign, we have broadened our partnerships to work on creating safe walking routes to elementary schools in the area. Last fall, a Safe Routes to School Task Force was convened with Nan Peterson of Madison Area SAFE KIDS as chair to coordinate efforts by county municipalities and to share information across communities.

What’s-Happening-at-Your-School

Please help us create a Calendar of Events for Walk Our Children to School Week for us to share with the media and local elected officials during the kick-off by completing our What's Happening At Your School form (35kb doc). We’re also taking an inventory of what assistance you’ll need to conduct your Walk. Please complete the form by September 22 and fax it to SAFE KIDS Coalition at 265-9650. Thanks!
